  • Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, with us you’ll have an opportunity to grow and develop. Delivering essential infrastructure services for life, while being safety first, and client and customer centric in a friendly, fun and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.

Reporting into the Project Manager, the Trainee Traffic Installation Technician will work closely with our experienced Traffic Engineers to install, maintain and test a range of Traffic Signals / Traffic Lighting units, as well as additional Electrical components and equipment, in and around the Midlands region.

This is a “Field based” role – the successful applicant MUST hold a full UK driving license and be prepared to travel across the regions and be comfortable working in all-weathers.

Training will not just be in a classroom, it’ll be a mixture of ‘on the job’ learning, desk-based and online learning, which will help you progress towards achieving an NVQ Level 2 in Highways Electrical Installations (led by LANTRA), then the NVQ Level 3, and finally, all Sector based certifications such as ECS and the National Highways Sector Scheme (NHSS) Chapter 8.

    What you’ll do:

    • Assist with the installation of traffic technology equipment across the UK road network
    • Pull, terminate and label electrical and communication cables to support new traffic technology installations.
    • Work closely with experienced Installation Technicians to develop technical knowledge and practical skills.
    • Maintain company tools, equipment and vehicles, ensuring they are kept clean, safe and fit for purpose.
    • Participate in structured training and development programmes to build the skills required to become a fully qualified Traffic Installation Technician

    Who you are:

You will naturally have an intrigue and interest in field-based Engineering, and ideally already have some exposure to anything Electrical Installations focused – whether that’s working with electrical equipment, lighting, controllers, detection boxes etc, or you’ve had some experience in a college course. If you don’t have experience, and you are keen to start a new career, we encourage you to apply.

    Key Requirements:

    • Motivation and willingness to learn through on the job and online learning
    • Previous experience of Electrical installations or a holder of an Electrical course / diploma or similar
    • Ability to problem solve and provide ideas – ultimately the job requires you to think outside the box, and working through “fault finding” instructions and specifications
    • Hold a full UK Driving Licence
    • Good communications skills and have the ability to use a Tablet / computer literate
    • Able to and willing to undertake a Drugs & Alcohol test to ensure compliancy
