You’ll be joining our Civils Projects team in Highways, as part of the UK’s number one highway maintenance contractor, we deliver specialist civil engineering projects for the private and public sectors across the UK, building strong relationships based on a collaborative approach. This location of the role is currently Peterborough, this will reviewed at end of year to cover eastern region. Opportunity to work flexibly with working from home occasionally.     What you'll be doing.

    Strong commercial control is key to delivering projects safely, efficiently and to the right standard. As a Managing
    Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take responsibility for commercial management across your portfolio, making sure
    processes are applied consistently and contracts are managed effectively throughout the lifecycle of each
    project. You’ll work closely with operational, finance and procurement teams to manage risk, maintain control and
    support effective delivery. As part of a wider commercial team, you’ll lead day-to-day commercial activity, guide
    others and help ensure strong, reliable commercial outcomes.

    The tasks and responsibilities you’ll take on.

    Pre-contract activities - You’ll help set projects up for effective commercial management. You’ll:

    - Support contract briefings and develop practical contract guidance
    - Define measurement rules and reporting requirements
    - Plan commercial resource and support onboarding and training, including TUPE where relevant
    - Work with Procurement on tendering, work packages and contract terms
    - Support supplier evaluation and contract award processes

    Valuation and change management - You’ll ensure valuations and change are managed accurately and in line
    with contract requirements. You’ll:

    - Ensure valuations and applications are timely, accurate and compliant
    - Monitor certifications, payments and cashflow, escalating issues where needed
    - Act as the first point of escalation for disputes and rejections
    - Manage processes for valuations, contract administration and change events
    - Provide clear commercial guidance to operational teams
    - Review and support the output of junior team members
    - Support the development of consistent valuation and assurance processes

    Supply chain valuations and cost management - You’ll maintain control of cost and value across your
    projects. You’ll:

    - Ensure alignment between cost, value and reporting
    - Validate cost data and maintain reliable accruals and margin reporting
    - Build and maintain strong supply chain relationships
    - Lead or support resolution of commercial issues and disputes
    - Oversee subcontract administration, including onboarding and contract processes
    - Ensure change events are managed and recovery is maximised

    Record keeping - You’ll ensure commercial records are accurate and up to date. You’ll:

    - Maintain registers for notices, correspondence, assessments and actions
    - Ensure site documentation is complete, timely and compliant
    - Manage subcontract documentation through its full lifecycle
    - Maintain risk and opportunity registers with clear impacts and actions

    Contract performance management - You’ll provide clear, accurate insight into commercial performance.
    You’ll:

    - Produce and review cashflow, WIP, forecasts and risk data
    - Support pipeline and revenue forecasting
    - Prepare and present weekly and monthly CVRs
    - Provide insight into risks, opportunities and areas of underperformance
    - Work with clients and internal teams to verify performance measures and outcomes
    - Carry out your work in line with M Group policies, standards and procedures

    Commercial and quantity surveying experience
    - Experience in a Quantity Surveying role within infrastructure or construction
    - Strong understanding of commercial processes and contract management
    - Experience working with NEC3 or NEC4 contracts

    Cost and data management
    - Strong numerical and analytical skills
    - Confidence working with commercial data and financial information
    - Strong IT capability, including MS Excel

    Contract and supply chain management
    - Experience supporting subcontract management and commercial processes
    - Ability to identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities

    Qualifications
    - Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline, or equivalent experience
