    Where you’ll be working?
    BGEN is one of the UK's largest multidisciplinary design and build contractors with over 100 years of industry experience. We support clients in the Water, Power & Energy, Pharmaceutical, Nuclear and Food and Beverage industries to deliver next generation, value-added engineering solutions. 

    What you'll be doing?
    • Survey existing OT networks, control panels and connected equipment (PLC, HMI, Remote I/O, Protocol converters) including their communication modules, firmware versions and compatibility and end of life status.
    • Document network topology, switch configurations, fibre and copper connections, protocols and asset conditions and produce clear survey reports, functional specifications, configuration records and migration plans.
    • Assess upgrade options for aging assets. Recommend partial or full replacement, or firmware upgrade and understand operational impact and risks.
    • Design network architectures and configure industrial managed switches, particularly Hirschmann switches for resilient networks, including fibre rings, VLANs, port configuration, RSPAN, multicast handling and network monitoring. 
    • Bench test configurations and plan staged migration to minimise disruption to operational processes. 
    • Work with specialists on PLC, HMI configurations and layer 3 networking and firewalls.

    What you’ll bring

    • Practical experience in industrial automation, system integration and OT networks.
    • Hands on experience surveying industrial networks and configuring managed switches.
    • Understanding resilient network design, VLANs, configuration of network devices and network fault finding.
    • Experience in planning, testing and commissioning changes on live operational sites.
    Beneficial skills and experience
    • Hirschmann switches and tools (HiVision and HiDiscovery)
    • Ring and redundancy protocols (MRP, RSTP, IGMP snooping, QoS, SNMP, RSPAN)
    • Water industry experince
    • Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Schneider PLC and HMI platforms
    • Layer 3 routing, network segmentation, Fortinet products and Cyber Security
