Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
The Operational Procurement Manager is a key leadership role within the Energy division, responsible for driving procurement excellence across operations. Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you'll lead the Energy Infrastructure Procurement Hub, ensuring seamless operational delivery while partnering with divisional stakeholders and Group Procurement to achieve strategic objectives.
You'll be the driving force behind cost avoidance, supply chain optimisation, procurement compliance and translating data into actionable insights that improve performance and reduce risk. This role offers the opportunity to shape supplier relationships, embed best practice, support major bids and contract mobilisations, while leading continuous improvement initiatives that deliver measurable business impact.
This role will be hybrid to our Nottingham office.
- Collaborate with divisional stakeholders to define procurement requirements and align procurement activities with business objectives.
- Lead the Energy Infrastructure Procurement Hub, ensuring operational procurement delivery, adherence to SLAs and acting as an escalation point for operational procurement issues.
- Establish, monitor and report against operational procurement KPIs.
- Develop, implement and maintain standard operating procedures, tools and reporting mechanisms to enhance efficiency, compliance and alignment with our health and safety culture, ESG objectives, regulatory and company standards.
- Identify, prioritise and implement procurement strategies that deliver savings and cost-avoidance opportunities, managing from assessment through to realisation.
- Identify and mitigate supply, commercial and regulatory risks.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships, monitor performance and implement corrective actions to ensure continuity of supply and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Monitor and drive compliance with preferred supplier lists, lead supply chain rationalisation and drive improvements in catalogue utilisation to reduce non-catalogue activity.
- Lead P2P continuous improvement with a focus on reducing issues and maintaining accurate master data in collaboration with the broader procurement function.
- Produce and analyse procurement data to support performance management and decision-making.
- Provide bid support to work-winning and estimating teams as required
What you’ll bring
- Proven experience in an operational procurement role with a strong understanding of procurement processes, policies and controls, particularly within a multi-site or operational environment.
- Demonstrable experience delivering cost avoidance and driving value through day-to-day procurement.
- Strong supplier management experience, including performance monitoring and issue resolution.
- Strong MS Excel data analysis and reporting skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with operational teams.
- Previous people management or team leadership experience within a procurement or purchasing function.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver in a fast-paced, operational environment
Desireable:
- Degree-level education or equivalent experience/qualification
- Professional certifications such as MCIPS
- Knowledge of category management principles (applied at an operational level)
- Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, process optimisation)
- Working knowledge of procurement systems (e.g. ERP, P2P systems) and master data management
