    Where will you be working?

    As an organisation, there is little we don’t do and plenty to get involved in. Our Group Support roles are vital in making sure we can help over 11,000 people deliver essential infrastructure seamlessly across water, energy, transport and telecom.

    This role is in our Group Commercial team.  The Group Commercial team works closely with the company divisions to ensure continuity and accuracy of commercial contracts.

    What will you be doing?

    The Commercial Work Winning Lead will play an integral role in driving the success of the M Group’s ambitious growth strategy by ensuring the commercial viability and profitability of tender submissions and bids. This role requires a commercially focused professional who can balance innovation, governance, and risk management to deliver winning strategies for securing new business opportunities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop processes and controls to ensure that pricing and commercial approach in tenders aligns with business plans, margin enhancement and risk appetite.
    • Lead the establishment and assurance of group-wide commercial governance processes for all bids and tenders to ensure full visibility and tracking of all tender submissions.
    • Conduct commercial reviews of high-value or strategic bids to ensure that all work-winning activities align with the group’s risk appetite, profitability targets, and contractual standards, providing guidance and support to Divisional teams.
    • Develop and deliver commercial work winning training programs for divisional teams including production of guidance materials, best practice examples and lessons learned.
    • Develop innovative pricing strategies and financial models to enhance the competitiveness and profitability of bids.
    • Oversee and validate cost estimates, cash flow projections, and margin analyses for high-value or strategic tenders.
    • Identify, evaluate, and implement mitigation plans for commercial risks associated with work-winning activities across the group.
    • Drive the identification of commercial opportunities within bids, including value engineering and alternative delivery models.
    • Ensure robust and realistic risk and opportunity registers are developed and incorporated into all tenders alongside ambitious Margin Improvement Plans with clear accountabilities for delivery post award.
    • Identify opportunities for strategic supply chain agreements to support work winning strategies across M Group and implement appropriate commercial agreements to build long-term partnering arrangements.
    • Develop strategic commercial relationships with design consultants including pre-contract commercial framework agreements to support tender strategies and provide commercial advantage to tenders.

    What you’ll bring

    • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or related field
    • Relevant professional certifications such as RICS or CICES
    • Established senior experience in commercial management
    • Experience of work winning tender and governance development processes and procedures across a Tier 1 UK Contractor
    • Excellent understanding of construction contracts, project delivery and commercial management systems and processes
    • Experience of commercial management across multiple contracting arrangements (capital delivery projects, alliancing, repair & maintenance frameworks)
    • Strong negotiations, communication and relationship-building skills
    • Proficiency in commercial management software, contract management tools, and financial systems
    • Proficiency in identifying and mitigating risks / maximising opportunities associated with construction projects
