    Where will you be working?

    At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.

    We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.

    This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

    This role will be working on our SPEN projects, covering works across Scotland.

    What will you be doing?

    As the Head of Portfolio, you’ll be responsible for leading the strategic planning, governance, and delivery oversight of a portfolio of complex Overhead Lines projects and programmes. You’ll ensure seamless alignment across all initiatives, achieving corporate objectives and fulfilling customer commitments.     Portfolio Strategy & Planning

    • Develop and maintain a portfolio strategy aligned with business objectives, ensuring both cross-regional and cross-functional communication and collaboration is maintained
    • Prioritise projects and programmes based on strategic value, risk, resource availability and security
    • Ensure any portfolio decisions support both long-term commercial and reputational value of the wider business

    Governance & Assurance

    • Establish and maintain robust governance structures for portfolio management
    • Monitor compliance with internal standards, regulatory obligations, and industry best practices
    • Provide assurance to senior leadership and stakeholders on portfolio performance and risk exposure
    • Ensure governance and assurance is delivered through robust procedures and reports consistent across the portfolio

    Commercial Management

    • Oversee portfolio-level budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance. Monitoring cost performance and implement corrective actions when needed
    • Assist in defining the commercial strategies for procurement across the portfolio and assist in supplier negotiations for major contracts or frameworks
    • Oversee change management processes for scope, cost, and schedule variations
    • Ensure cost efficiency and value delivery across all projects and programmes
    • Work with commercial teams to ensure effective channels of communication are in place
    • Ensure robust commercial governance across all projects

    Risk & Issue Management

    • Identify and manage portfolio-level risks, dependencies, and constraints
    • Implement mitigation strategies to minimise impact on delivery and performance
    • Ensure portfolio level risks are communicated to the wider business
    • Ensure commercial position is protected and change management procedures are in place
    • Monitor supplier performance against contractual commitments

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Act as the primary interface for portfolio-related matters with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and industry bodies.
    • Communicate portfolio performance to senior leadership, through the presentation of executive dashboards summarising key metrics such as (but not limited to) delivery performance, safety, commercial outcomes, and risk.
    • Keep internal stakeholders updated (Design, Procurement, Operations etc) on any significant changes in the portfolio

    Leadership

    • Lead, develop and mentor a team of high performing Project Managers, building capacity and resilience where required.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across all projects and programmes.
    • Drive cultural and operational change to embed best practices in governance, risk management, and change management
    • Instil safe behaviour through your actions,championing a strong safety-first culture across all projects and programmes within the portfolio.
    • Support and stand in for members of the Senior Management Team as required
    • Encourage innovative thinking and adoption of new technologies, methodologies, and delivery models

    Digital & Innovation

    • Drive adoption of digital tools and data analytics for portfolio optimisation
    • Support on innovation in forecasting, scenario planning, and delivery methodologies

    What you’ll bring

    • Degree educated with a thorough understanding of the Transmission Power industry, including key clients, regulatory bodies, and industry standards
    • Experienced in managing and delivering complex projects, including managing scope changes, budgets, risk, and timelines, and possesses strong problem-solving skills
    • Performance-oriented leadership – ability to lead and supervise the team, setting goals and expectations, providing feedback, support and managing performance
    • Confident negotiator & influencer - comfortable operating at a senior level, negotiating with and influencing key stakeholders both internal & external
    • Hard-working & flexible attitude
    • Commercial acumen - strong focus on analysing and implementing best practices to support M Group’s strategic objectives. Commitment to developing a high-performance culture.
    • Full UK driving license & willingness to travel
