Where will you be working?

We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Procurement team for our Energy division. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
As the Procurement manager you will play a pivotal role within the business where you'll work in close partnership with divisional and project stakeholders, shaping and delivering procurement strategies.
This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic thinker and hands-on leader. You’ll be instrumental in shaping subcontract procurement, strengthening supplier relationships and ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory & company standards. You'll be the client facing procurement lead for the Great Grid Partnership (GGP), contributing to the enterprise procurement strategy and sharing best practice across the GGP Enterprise.
This is a hybrid role based in one of our regional offices (Birmingham, Nottingham, Stevenage, Newport) including regular collaboration with our partners in GGP Enterprise offices in Birmingham.
This role reports directly in to the Head of Procurement and your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborate with divisional stakeholders to define procurement requirements and align procurement activities with business objectives.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships, monitor performance and implement corrective actions to ensure continuity of supply and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Identify, prioritise and implement procurement strategies that drive innovation, deliver savings and cost-avoidance opportunities managing from assessment through to realisation.
- Plan and lead the sourcing activities, including RFQs and ITTs, leveraging supply chain and market intelligence to obtain best value and favourable commercial outcomes.
- Conduct structured evaluations of quotations and tenders, presenting best value and compliance with company standards and contractual requirements.
- Lead negotiation of framework agreements and ensure procurement activities are aligned with project budgets and programmes and compliant with legal regulatory & company standards.
- Oversee the transition from contract award to operational execution ensuring effective project mobilisation, compliance with sourcing strategy.
- Identify and mitigate supply, commercial, and regulatory risks.
- Develop and maintain robust processes, tools, and reporting mechanisms to enhance efficiency, compliance and alignment with our health and safety culture, ESG objectives, regulatory and company standards.
- Promote best practice and a continuous improvement mindset.
What you’ll bring
- Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to influence at senior levels.
- Proven procurement experience with a track record of delivering cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Expertise in sourcing & procurement processes, supplier selection, negotiation and contract management.
- Implementing supplier performance and risk management frameworks
- Familiarity with procurement technologies such as ERP, Oracle and advanced data-management techniques.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office tools, particularly Excel
- Procurement qualifications such as MCIPS or CIPS.
- Degree-level qualifications in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related fields.
- Experience in project-based organisations or design/engineering environments.
- Practical knowledge of industry-standard contracts (e.g., NEC3/4, FIDIC, JCT)
- Knowledge and application of sustainability in procurement.
Desireable:
- Procurement qualifications such as MCIPS or CIPS.
- Degree-level qualifications in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related fields.
- Experience in project-based organisations or design/engineering environments.
- Knowledge and application of sustainability in procurement.
