Principal Network Engineer - Hybrid working (2 days a week at the Birmingham City Centre / Hitachi offices + Home working)

Telent is looking for a Principal Network Engineer to join our Network Services team supporting critical infrastructure projects within the transport sector. This is a senior technical role focused on the design, assurance and delivery of complex enterprise and Operational Technology (OT) network solutions.

Working closely with the Solutions Architect and wider engineering team, you will provide technical leadership across network infrastructure, cybersecurity and systems integration, helping deliver resilient and secure services for critical customer environments.

    What you'll do:

    • Lead the design, assurance and deployment of secure network and infrastructure solutions across enterprise and OT environments.
    • Produce and review high-quality technical documentation including high-level and low-level designs, migration plans and operational handover materials.
    • Act as a senior technical specialist for routing, switching, network security, firewalls and infrastructure technologies.
    • Collaborate with Solution Architects, project teams and customers to develop resilient and secure solutions that meet operational and cyber security requirements.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and project teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
    • Support technical governance, design assurance, risk management and engineering change processes.
    • Escalation point for complex technical challenges, supporting successful delivery of critical infrastructure programmes.

    Who you are:

You are an experienced Network Engineer professional with a strong background in the design and delivery of complex network and security solutions. You enjoy solving technical challenges, working collaboratively within a close-knit engineering team and influencing technical decisions throughout project lifecycles.

You'll be comfortable operating across enterprise IT and OT environments, balancing security, resilience, performance and operational requirements. You can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and can provide technical leadership whilst remaining hands-on where required. Experience within transport, rail or other critical infrastructure sectors would be beneficial, although candidates from other complex network environments will also be considered.

    Key Requirements:

    • Extensive experience designing, delivering and supporting enterprise networking and cybersecurity solutions.
    • Strong technical expertise in routing, switching, network segmentation, firewalls and infrastructure technologies, including protocols such as BGP and OSPF and enterprise network architectures.
    • Experience working with security technologies such as Cisco Firepower, FMC, Identity Services Engine (Cisco ISE) and SIEM platforms such as Splunk.
    • CCNP certified (or equivalent level of demonstrable experience) across networking and/or security disciplines.
    • Experience working within complex, highly available or critical operational environments, with OT experience advantageous.
    • Ability to attend the Birmingham office on a regular basis as part of a hybrid working model, with flexibility for candidates based in the North West region.
    • Holder of a full UK driving license
    • Ability to obtain SC Clearance (minimum 5-years of UK residency rules apply)
