This is a key engineering role responsible for shaping technical strategy, driving innovation, and ensuring the successful delivery of current and future CCTV technologies.

    What you’ll do:

    • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for CCTV systems, architecture and service delivery.
    • Define and contribute to strategic technology roadmaps and target architectures for large-scale CCTV and video management platforms.
    • Evaluate and develop hosting solutions, including cloud-based and hybrid architectures, supporting the transition from traditional on-premises infrastructure to Microsoft Azure environments.
    • Lead technical workshops with customers and stakeholders to identify operational challenges and develop innovative solutions.
    • Design and review High Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs) for CCTV and associated technologies.
    • Contribute to the development and delivery of innovative solutions including IP camera commissioning tools, video management system integrations and advanced monitoring capabilities.
    • Assess infrastructure, connectivity, security and hosting requirements to ensure solutions are scalable, resilient and cost-effective.
    • Develop software and automation tools to streamline deployment, commissioning, firmware management and assurance processes.
    • Lead the integration of CCTV systems with third-party applications and operational technology platforms.
    • Support the evaluation and implementation of resilient communications technologies, including 4G and 5G connectivity solutions.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational performance, service availability and efficiency.
    • Promote industry standards and best practice, including ONVIF-based interoperability and technology-agnostic validation methods.
    • Provide mentoring, coaching and technical development support to engineers, graduates, apprentices and support teams.
    • Deliver technical governance and assurance throughout the project and operational lifecycle.

    Who you are:

As a Principal CCTV Engineer, you will act as the technical authority for CCTV systems, leading architecture, integration, performance optimisation and innovation initiatives across large-scale operational environments. You will work closely with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams to define solution roadmaps, influence strategic technology decisions and ensure solutions remain secure, resilient and fit for purpose.

The role will play a crucial part in modernising CCTV infrastructure through the adoption of cloud-based technologies, automation and industry standards, whilst supporting the delivery of innovative solutions that improve operational efficiency and service availability.

    Key Requirements:

    • Significant experience in CCTV engineering within critical infrastructure, highways, transport or operational technology environments.
    • Strong knowledge of IP CCTV systems, Video Management Systems (VMS), Network Video Recorders (NVRs) and camera technologies.
    • Proven experience designing complex technical solutions and producing HLD and LLD documentation.
    • Experience defining solution architectures and evaluating hosting models, including cloud-based environments such as Microsoft Azure.
    • Strong understanding of networking principles and IP-based communications.
    • Experience integrating CCTV solutions with third-party systems and services.
    • Knowledge of ONVIF standards and CCTV interoperability frameworks.
    • Experience developing or implementing automation solutions to improve operational efficiency.
    • Strong stakeholder management and customer engagement skills.
    • Ability to lead technical workshops and influence strategic decision-making.
    • Experience mentoring engineers and supporting technical capability development
    • You will need to be eligible for SC Clearance

    • Knowledge of Stopped Vehicle Detection (SVD) technologies.
    • Experience supporting cloud migration and infrastructure modernisation projects.
    • Understanding of resilient mobile communications technologies including dual-SIM 4G and 5G solutions.
    • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles relating to CCTV, video management and operational technology systems.
    • Experience leading innovation projects and research and development initiatives.
