  • Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, with us you’ll have an opportunity to grow and develop. Delivering essential infrastructure services for life, while being safety first, and client and customer centric in a  friendly, fun and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.

    Where will you be working?

We help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards.  We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.

This role will be within our MEICA and capital maintenance team. Our Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (MEICA) experts offer a one-stop solution, including ongoing operation and maintenance services.

Want to be a part of it?

Are you interested in STEM subjects and want to work across multiple industry sectors within an engineering biased organisation? This M-Group Water Apprenticeship Scheme is the right step on to a career pathway that will give you vocational and further education qualifications across the mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control & automation (MEICA) fields.

M-Group Water provides mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control & automation (MEICA) maintenance and project delivery services across a customer base that covers the Water, Energy and Transport sectors, with additional customers across our adjacent markets such as chemical and pharmaceutical engineering.

This is a great opportunity for the engineers of tomorrow to develop practical and engineering skills across a broad range of topics and initiatives to take out into the STEM environment solving customers’ problems and fixing things!

    What will you be doing?

Year 1 - Will be spent full-time (3 days a week) at our training provider’s centre in the South East of England working towards the first stage of the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard at Level 2. This entails learning hand skills using tools across the electrical, electronic and mechanical disciplines within a controlled workshop environment. You will create write up’s that are assessed to achieve the Level 2 criteria. Also within year 1, you will be on day release with our training provider completing a Level 3 diploma in Engineering covering core subjects such as engineering maths, science and first principles. You will then spend 1 day a week within the work environment at Z-Tech working alongside our experienced technicians and engineers.

Year 2 - Will be the start of your Level 3 part of the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard in either mechanical, electrical and/or control & instrumentation (MEICA). This will be conducted at the workplace alongside experienced technicians and engineers across our apprenticeship pathway programme through our 5 Business Units (Water, Energy, Rail, AES & Labour), where you will be assessed on site. You will also be continuing your day release with our training provider to complete the 2nd and final year of the Level 3 diploma in Engineering.

Year 3 and 4 - Will be the continuation of the Level 3 part of the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard in your chosen disciplines until you have completed your mandatory assessments and achieved sign off from our training provider’s assessors.

Throughout the apprenticeship scheme you will be assessed against the criteria of the learning outcomes and M-Group values. Based on these performance criterion, during years 3 and 4 you may be offered the opportunity to complete a Level 4 HNC diploma in an engineering discipline suited to the industries M-Group operate within.
