You’ll be joining our Civils projects team. We deliver specialist civil engineering for the private and public sectors across the UK, building strong relationships based on a collaborative approach.
You'll be the visible Leader for M Group Highways Ltd and its entity at Hinkley Point C (HPC) known as the Somerset Infrastructure Alliance. Ensuring we remain compliant with the Contract and Task Order terms and requirements, as well as M Group Highways Minimum Standards. You will take full ownership for the contract works programme and enable effective and cost-efficient use of resources. Managing the team, interfacing with your Project Director.

What will you be doing?
You'll lead the Operational team, working closely with the Project Director to shape the culture, the look and feel, ultimately driving the behavioural change required to deliver within the structure.
Supporting the HPC team ensuring the level of resource matches demand and that workload on sub-teams or individuals are manageable.
You'll manage the periodically brief to the workforce on the forward programme and any wider news from M Group Highways Projects sector.
We'll ask you to liaise closely with the EDF New Nuclear Build (NNB) Service Manager to improve and if possible expand M Group Highways service offering.
You'll attend Senior level weekly and monthly client meetings reporting on delivery and KPI stats as required.
Have knowledge of the works programme, working closely with the Agents and supply chain Partners to understand and mitigate any issues.
You'll work with the SHEQ Manager to ensure the operational Team is fully conversant with the H&S, Environmental and Quality compliance in accordance with NNB & MIL standards. Identifying and issuing early warnings and compensation events via the commercial team.
In conjunction with the Project Director, you'll update the monthly M Group Highways Board report.
You'll update the annual Contractor's Plan and champion business and operational improvement initiatives and innovation.
Hold the lead communication role within the business including the compilation and issue of the monthly reports, quarterly board reviews and cascade information via formal and ad hoc routes through the business, seeking feedback and engagement from staff.
We'll ask you to provide operational support to the Commercial lead ensuring sufficient flow of information between the operational and commercial teams.
You'll utilising the knowledge and expertise from within your team, you will help generate an environment which recognises the importance of accurate information sharing, and excellent communication and relationships as critical to successful delivery capability.
Oversee training competency through contract training coordinator.
Maintain relationship with NNB Industrial Relations (IR) Manager.
Support Agents and Line Managers with any IR issues.
What you’ll bring
- Experience of process re-engineering, of leading successful business transformation projects within construction support services, ideally within highways.
- A proven ability to realise and deliver improved efficiencies for both the business and the client.
- Proven project management and project reporting skills, coupled with a commercial drive and acumen.
- An understanding of the contemporary issues within highway maintenance would be desirable, lean principles, performance benchmarking, efficiency driving and improvement of delivery.
- Effective team management, leadership and influencing skills to get the best from everyone.
- Excellent customer skills and the ability to demonstrate influencing in all situations.
- The ability to drive excellent relationships with contacts at all levels – from the client to colleagues and contacts across the wider M Group Highways.
- Excellent IT skills are essential, and ideally, you will be proficient in MS SharePoint, Asta/Powerproject, Excel, Outlook, Visio, PowerBI and Causeway.
- Knowledge of construction or maintenance works, preferably in the highway maintenance industry
- Excellent leadership skills and the ability to demonstrate influencing others in all situations.
- Great team working skills and the ability to collaborate well with others.
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written - to ensure clarity in all situations and to effectively influence client decision making.
