    Where you'll be working?

     The Head of Portfolio Management is a senior leader within the Strategic Projects and Management Office, responsible for ensuring change initiatives are strategically aligned, properly resourced, and sequenced to maximise organisational capacity. The role works closely with functional leaders to enhance portfolio performance, provide clear delivery insight, and support informed executive decision‑making. It oversees cross‑programme coordination, ensuring visibility of interdependencies, risks, and issues to strengthen delivery confidence and drive benefits realisation. The position requires a commercially minded, proactive technology leader with a strong track record managing complex portfolios.

    What you'll be doing? 

    • Set and maintain a strategy‑aligned portfolio roadmap.
    • Lead demand intake and value‑based prioritisation.
    • Oversee portfolio performance, risks, KPIs, and governance.
    • Manage investment planning, budgeting, and funding decisions.
    • Ensure benefits are defined, tracked, and realised.
    • Advise senior leaders on portfolio health and trade‑offs.
    • Coordinate cross‑programme sequencing and interdependencies.
    • Champion modern technology and innovation.
    • Drive an outcome‑focused, continuously improving culture.
    • Partner with executives, finance, PMO, risk, and delivery teams to align priorities and optimise investment.

    Essential skills & experience?

    • Extensive experience leading portfolio management, prioritisation, investment decisions, and strategic alignment.
    • Proven capability in demand shaping, planning, optimisation, and benefits realisation within large transformations.
    • Strong financial acumen across business cases, funding allocation, ROI, and value tracking.
    • Skilled at advising senior leaders on priorities, risks, and strategic trade‑offs.
    • Able to assess complex demand and make clear, value‑led prioritisation decisions.
    • Data‑driven, converting analysis into actionable insights for optimisation.
    • Highly effective stakeholder influencer and challenger.
    • Strong ability to balance demand, capacity, dependencies, and sequencing.
    • Experienced in defining, tracking, and realising benefits tied to strategic outcomes.
    • Deep understanding of portfolio risks, interdependencies, and constraints with proactive mitigation.

    Desirable

    • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g., IT, Business, Management, Engineering) or equivalent professional experience.
    • Relevant professional certifications such as MSP, MoP, PgMP, PMP, MSP
    • Experience with Agile delivery frameworks (e.g., SAFe, Scrum at scale).
    • Experienced in using project and programme management tools (e.g. MS Project, Azure DevOps) to track delivery, plan resources and manage budgets.
    • Experience working within SFIA-aligned organisations or capability frameworks
